About the Creator
Toby Beck has taught grade 7 math for the past 7 years in West Vancouver, BC, Canada. He has been teaching with laptops in his classroom for 5 years and has recently completed Simon Fraser University’s “Teaching and Learning in an Information Technology Environment” Graduate Diploma program with a focus on constructivist learning in math through the use of MathCasts. Students in his math class create MathCasts that demonstrate their learning as well as receive MathCast lessons designed by their teacher that explain new concepts being taught.

Student Testimonials:
“The benefits of mathcasts are that you can learn at your own pace.”

“You can look back at the video, pause, rewind and review as you need to get it.”

“Personally, I think I learn way better digitally on my own rather than in class with everyone else. I can be in my own space and go at my own pace.”

“Digital learning is better because it adjusts to your learning instead of you adjusting to the teacher and other students.”

“Graphic examples make the problem come to life and make it easier to visualize. I think it’s more interesting so then it’s easier to learn and make an effort to get a better mark and actually want to learn and understand the concept.”

“You can replay the movie over and over until you understand it. Also, people who understand it better can move on to the next step, while others can go more slowly. Everyone can learn at their own pace. This is why digital learning is good.”
